Aug 2, 2005
Minneapolis, August 2, 2005 – Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has received a $6.7 million award to produce M212 countermeasure flares for the U.S. Army’s Advanced Infrared Countermeasure Munitions program (AIRCMM). The award is the second part of a $15.9 million contract ATK received last year. AIRCMM is designed to protect rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft from threats posed by enhanced surface-to-air infrared weapons systems. ATK will produce the flares over the next four years at its manufacturing facility at Promontory, Utah.
The M212 flare is a specialized, multispectral, countermeasure device designed for use in combination with other flares on vulnerable, low-, slow-flying aircraft, such as helicopters and fixed-wing transport/cargo aircraft. The M212 can be loaded in ALE-47 flare dispensers already in place on U.S. Army and Air Force aircraft.
ATK is a $3.0 billion advanced weapon and space systems company employing approximately 14,000 people in 23 states. News and information can be found on the Internet at www.atk.com.
