Turkey awards Thales a major Maritime Patrol and Surveillance System program

Thales was selected as the preferred supplier in 2001 and the final contract was signed 6th September in Ankara by Prof.Ali Dursun Ercan - Undersecretary for Defence Industries (SSM)and Jos é Massol,Senior Vice-President,Group Executive,Thales AirborneSystems Business Group.

The MELTEM contract concerns supplying a batch of nine systems integrated into the existing modified CN 235 aircraft and an additional quantity of ten systems to be integrated into new platforms.

In the framework of the program,Thales undertakes to significantly cooperate in high technology activities with key Turkish industrial partners.This participation reinforces the partnership between Thales and the Turkish defense industry.

The Thales solution is based on the powerful Airborne
Maritime Situation Control System (AMASCOS),which is designed around an up to date tactical command subsystem with the latest generation of Thales sensors suites including radar,ESM,acoustics and communications.

This latest generation system will allow the Turkish Navy and the Turkish Coast Guard to perform their stringent maritime patrol and surveillance missions for the next decades.This key contract signed with Turkey makes Thales the leading European supplier of Maritime Patrol Airborne Systems.
