Police said on 13 July that the blast occurred late last night in Jalula near the Iranian border. Six of the wounded are in serious condition.
Police said a suicide bomber might have been inside the mosque preparing for an attack when the explosives detonated prematurely.
Sunni insurgents have mounted several bombings in or near Shi'ite mosques in a campaign designed to topple Iraq's new Shi'ite-led government.
