Two More IAI Ramta Division Super Dvora Mark III Fast Patrol Craft Accepted into Israel Navy Service at Commissioning Ceremony
Jul 13, 2005
Two additional next-generation Super Dvora Mark-III Fast Patrol Craft were inducted into operational service in the Israel Navy at a commissioning ceremony (13 July 2005) at the Ashdod Naval Base on the Mediterranean coast. The Super Dvora MK-III is designed and produced by the Ramta Division of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) located in Beer Sheva, Israel.
In November 2004, the first craft of the Mark-III generation of the combat-proven Super Dvora class was commissioned into service. In its first eight months of service, the craft has already exceeded by a wide margin the intended number of operational hours at sea carrying out a wide variety of security related and Search and Rescue (SAR) missions along Israel's coastline. Since entering service, the craft's proven mission readiness, reliability and effectiveness have exceeded all operational parameters and expectations.
The two craft commissioned today have successfully completed all sea trials and system checkouts, and their entry into service adds a significant boost to the Israel Navy's ability to control and protect Israel's territorial waters including maritime approaches and commercial sea lanes in the eastern Mediterranean.
The Super Dvora MK-III represents the latest generation and most advanced version to date of IAI/Ramta's venerable and combat proven family of fast patrol and attack craft designed in cooperation with the Israel Navy. The craft's development was carried out using all operational and technical experience accumulated over the years within the Israel Navy and those of over a dozen other navies who have procured Super Dvora craft from IAI/Ramta.
The Super Dvora MK-III possesses unique performance features, not normally found in a single naval platform and include a state-of-the-art thrust-vectoring surface drive propulsion system; precision strike capability achieved through an advanced stabilized 25mm cannon slaved to day/night mast-mounted electro-optic sensors; high-speed maneuverability in both shallow and deep water, long range, advanced human engineering, and very low life-cycle costs to operate and maintain the fleet.
More than 80 craft have been sold by IAI/Ramta covering all generations of its family of fast patrol/attack craft ("Dabur", "Dvora", "Super Dvora Mark-I, Mark-II, and Mark-III") to the Israel Navy and navies worldwide.
The two craft commissioned today, along with the initial craft of this class commissioned in November 2004, represent the first three of IAI/Ramta's contract for six craft signed with the Israel Ministry of Defense in January 2002, and also includes options for additional craft in the future.
