EADS delivers further rescue centres to the German Armed Forces
EADS Defence Electronics
- Quick, mobile, autonomous provision of initial medical care
- Tried and tested throughout the world
Friedrichshafen, 13 July 2005 – EADS will supply the German Armed Forces with three further rescue centres as part of the mobile field hospital “TransHospital”. The German Armed Forces have already deployed TransHospital, which was developed and built at EADS, for several years. As EADS announced on Wednesday, the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) awarded EADS Defence Electronics the contract worth a total of approx. € 6 million.
The great advantage of the TransHospital is its versatility. One module, the rescue station, that makes qualified operations possible, can be extended to a complete field hospital with all the functions a stationary hospital has in the final extension stage. The latest contract is for three “light” rescue units. Each of these rescue centres consists of an “operations” functional container, an “operation preparations” functional container, an admission container, a utilities container for medical equipment and a clinical/chemical laboratory. Two of the three “light” rescue centres are due to be delivered to the German medical service this year.
Bernhard Gerwert, Head of the EADS Defence Electronics Business Unit, commented: “Thanks to the modular structure of the mobile hospital and the linking up of units, the quality and the processes offered by stationary hospitals can be reached from a medical point of view.” In addition to the modular structure of the mobile field hospital, the system stands out since it can be deployed autonomously at the most contrasting spots around the world: The possible areas of deployment range from arctic climates to desert regions.
A naval version of the hospital is also deployed on the supply vessels of the German Navy. The system is deployed in various configurations by the armed forces of Singapore, Spain, Slovenia and the United Arab Emirates. The German Armed Forces are currently using EADS field hospitals in humanitarian operations in such areas as Afghanistan and the Balkans. Most recently, TransHospital proved itself when used to care for the Tsunami victims in South East Asia.
EADS Defence Electronics is a leading supplier of radar and avionic systems and electronic warfare equipment and is an integrated part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS).
