BAE SYSTEMS Awarded $90 Million Contract To Upgrade M113 Family Of Vehicles
06 Jul 2005
The U.S. Army has awarded a $90 million contract to BAE Systems to upgrade 356 M113 Family of Vehicles (FOVs) to the latest A3 configuration. The vehicles produced will be the M577A3 Command Post Carrier, the M1064A3 Mortar Carrier and the M1068A3 Standard Integrated Command Post (SICPS) Carrier.
The new configuration will provide greater speed and mobility, improved driver controls, improved T-150 track, and armour provisions. BAE Systems facility in Anniston, Alabama, has been upgrading the M113 FOVs since 1994 and produces them in partnership with the Anniston Army Depot.
The contract reflects a significant increase in the quantities of vehicles to be upgraded in comparison to quantities awarded in recent years, said Robert Houston, vice president and general manager of Steel Products for BAE Systems. This indicates the U.S. Armys commitment to maintain and upgrade its current fleet, and with the vehicles upgraded under the contract, it will have converted more than 40 percent of the total M113 FOVs to the A3 configuration.
