Iraqi judge killed, 45 detained over weekend in Mosul

MOSUL, Iraq (Army News Service, June 20, 2005) -- An Iraqi judge was killed this weekend in Mosul, Iraq, and Coalition Forces detained 45 individuals and confiscated 7 weapons caches.

An Iraqi judge and his driver were assassinated June 16 when a white pick-up truck approached them and shot into their vehicle. The judge, Salim Mahmood Ali, and his driver were wounded by gunfire and were taken to a local hospital, where they died of their wounds.

Seven Iraqi civilians were injured when a suicide car bomber detonated near an Iraqi Army convoy in southern Mosul June 16. The injured civilians were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Iraqi Police seized a weapons cache south of Mosul June 16, which included 120mm rockets, more than 600 mines, thousands of fuses and blasting caps and hundreds of rounds of large ammunition. The weapons were confiscated for future destruction.

Cordon and search operations in southern Mosul led to 17 suspected terrorists being detained June 17, and a weapons cache seized June 18. The weapons were confiscated for future destruction.

Another individual was detained at a checkpoint south of Mosul June 18, and a weapons cache was seized for future destruction during a search operation June 19.

Six Iraqi civilians were injured, including five children, during a terrorist attack near a soccer field in Tal Afar June 17. Terrorists were attacking a nearby Iraqi Security Force post with mortar and small arms fire. The injured civilians were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A weapons cache was seized for future destruction during a search operation in Tal Afar June 18, and troops killed two terrorist after being attacked with small arms fire June 19.

One individual was detained by troops after being attacked with small arms fire while patrolling in Tal Afar June 19.

One Iraqi civilian was killed and five were injured during a terrorist mortar attack in central Mosul June 19, and in a separate incident troops detained three individuals during a raid that are suspected of terrorist activity. The civilians were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

In northern Mosul, troops killed one terrorist and injured another after their convoy was attacked with small arms fire June 18. Troops detained the injured terrorist following treatment, and seized a number of weapons from the terrorists’ vehicles.

Also in northern Mosul, a weapons cache was confiscated for future destruction June 18, and 13 individuals suspected of terrorist activity were detained by troops during separate operations June 19.

Troops detained an individual suspected of terrorist activity and seized weapons during a cordon and search operation in northeastern Mosul June 17. The weapons were confiscated for future destruction.

One Iraqi child was critically injured when terrorists attacked Iraqi Security Forces with rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire in western Mosul June 17. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Troops detained one individual suspected of conducting the attack and seized weapons from the vehicle involved in the attack.

Also in western Mosul, one civilian was killed and another injured when terrorists fired on their vehicle June 18, and eight individuals were detained during a separate cordon and search operation. The injured civilian was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
