Thales Signs a $US120 Million Contract with Sukhoi

14 June 2005

Thales is proud to announce that Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has selected its avionics suite to equip its new RRJ aircraft. With this partnership, Thales will be the full integrator and avionics supplier of the flight deck aboard the Sukhoi regional jet program family.

Sukhoi and Thales announced in December 2004 the signature of a protocol to provide the development and integration of Thales' full avionics suite on board the Russian Regional Jet (RRJ) airplane.

Equipped with the latest and most advanced architecture, the new RRJ program will offer pilots a much simplified working environment, based on a similar design that equips the new Airbus A380. The avionics suite provided by Thales, including the cockpit display, communication, navigation and surveillance systems, will boost the capacity and performance of the RRJ aircraft.

Thales extensive experience as full avionics integrator aboard Bombardier and Airbus aircraft, to only name a few, will prove to be a definite asset in the conception, the development, flight testing to the certification of this new program. Equipped with cutting-edge Thales avionics, the RRJ aircraft will be ready to face the Russian national and export markets as soon as 2007.

"Sukhoi is very pleased with its long-lasting relationship with Thales and is impressed with the new cockpit environment Thales has created for the RRJ program family. With this leading avionics technology aboard our new regional aircraft, Sukhoi is enthusiastically entering a new aircraft segment to face the increasing demand for regional aircraft," declared Mikhail Pogosyan, Chief Executive Officer of Sukhoi Holding.

Sukhoi has already been awarded a first contract from SIBIR airline for 50 aircraft of the RRJ family. Other main Western companies have shown a strong interest in the Sukhoi Regional Jet family.

"Thales is excited with this new challenge that will strengthen our existing relationship with Sukhoi. Thales will equip Sukhoi with the latest and most advanced avionics concepts that are sure to please and attract Russian and Western Airlines in their quest for new aircraft technology", stated Denis Ranque, President of Thales.
