Israel Aircraft Industries Leads Co-development of Unique Multi-Mission Joint Operation Control Center
Jun 13, 2005
System Allows Battlefield Commander to Efficiently Utilize Both Sensors and Joint Operational Forces
A Multi-Mission Joint Operation Control Center using cutting edge technologies and Network Centric approach, being developed by Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd. (IAI) in cooperation with Ness Technologies' Telecom & Systems Group (Ness TSG) and several other firms will be demonstrated at the Paris Air Show.
The system, named TWISTER, is being designed to give the battlefield commander immediate real-time access to all intelligence data, coming from all available sensors and enabling him to use this information for efficient utilization of his joint operational forces. A major design goal of the system, that has been achieved, was to shorten the time span between the gathering of sensor data on a modern battlefield and providing that data to the "shooters".
The time to develop the full system was accelerated by using proven Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware and software and integrating it with existing command and control systems.
IAI's Malat Division is the prime organization working on co-development with IAI's MLM Division and Ness TSG. Leading subcontractors include CAE, Tiltan and Optibase.
TWISTER, originally developed through internal R&D funds from IAI and Ness, is now receiving funding from Israel's Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Labor. Although the system will be used initially for military applications, the Ministry sees potential commercial uses.
A detailed technical description of the TWISTER system is attached.
