EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division

Le Bourget, 13 June 2005

EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division manufactures and sells light and medium military transport aircraft.

With the C-212, CN-235 and C-295, EADS is the global leader in the market segments for light and medium-sized military transport aircraft with over 700 aircraft flying with more than 100 operators worldwide. EADS is the only manufacturer covering the 3- to 9-tonne segment.

C-295 Military Transport Aircraft

The Spanish Air Force was the launching customer for the new C-295 with an order for 9 aircraft. Poland purchased 8 aircraft in August 2001, Jordan 2 in February 2003 and Brazil 12 aircraft in April 2005 to replace the ageing C-115 Buffalo.

Portugal has selected recently the C-295. The intention is the acquisition of 12 aircraft, 5 a/c under maritime patrol configuration (MPA) and 7 a/c as military transports.

CN-235 Military Transport Aircraft

More than 160 CN-235 have been purchased over the world. USA, France, Ireland, Chile, South Korea, just to name a few, are some of the 28 countries where the CN-235 are in operation or will be soon.

C-212 Military Transport Aircraft

The C-212 is a lightweight aircraft in the 3 tonn. range that represented the first big success of EADS CASA as a global leader in this segment. The C-212 flies with 90 operators in more than 40 countries.

Mission Aircraft

EADS CASA CN-235 is the aircraft included in the winning Integrated Coast Guard Systems (ICGS) offer to the United States Coast Guard. The CN-235 covers one of the fixed wing part of the Deepwater program integrated through a C4ISR network with the rest of CG's assets (ships, helicopters, shore bases). The U.S. Coast Guard has initially awarded a contract totalling approximately U.S. $130 million to Integrated Coast Guard Systems (ICGS) for the design and delivery of two Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) based on EADS CASA CN-235 aircraft.

UAE Naval Forces selected the C-295 ASW (FITS equipped) for its maritime patrol aircraft programme.

The Colombian Navy acquired in November 2002 two EADS CASA CN-235¬200 aircraft for patrol missions in its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and for the fight against drug trafficking.

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Food and EADS CASA signed a contract in 2002 for the acquisition of a third CASA C-212-400 maritime patrol aircraft for the control of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

SASEMAR, a company that belongs to the Spanish Ministry of Infrastructures, has purchased 3 CN-235-300 in April 2005. These aircraft include the mission system FITS and will be used for maritime rescue and sea pollution prevention.

Fully Integrated Tactical System (FITS)

Military Transport Aircraft Division produces and sells special mission aircraft derived from existing models and dedicated to a specialised military task, such as maritime surveillance or antisubmarine warfare. EADS CASA developed the Fully Integrated Tactical System (FITS), which benefited from CASA's extensive experience in maritime surveillance and patrol aircraft.

The FITS is nowadays a proven, reliable and cost efficient solution that has been the winner in most of the programs awarded in the world for MP system integration.

The first of five P-3B from the Spanish Ejército del Aire performed in June 03 the first flight within the MPA modernization programme (including the installation of the FITS mission system) being carried out by EADS CASA Mexico placed a contract to EADS CASA for the acquisition of the mission system FITS for eight CASA C-212s included in their modernisation programme.

Brazil has purchased the mission system FITS as part of the modernisation programme for its P3-Orion (8 a/c) that would be performed together by EADS CASA and several local Brazilian partners.

A400M

At the beginning of 1999, Aerospatiale Matra, Alenia, BAE Systems, CASA, Dasa, Flabel and TAI founded the Airbus Military, with Airbus as the major shareholder. AM is developing the A400M military transport aircraft which is to replace the C-160 Transall, and the C-130 Hercules. The final assembly line and delivery centre of the A400M will be at EADS CASA facilities in Sevilla, Spain. On May 27, 2003, OCCAR and Airbus Military signed in Bonn the contract for 180 aircraft for the partner nations.

The South African government signed in April 28, 2005 a contract with Airbus Military making the country a partner in the A400M airlifter programme and confirming the confidence placed in the programme by countries outside the existing group of seven European launch nations.

Multi Role Tanker Transport

EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division (MTAD) is responsible for all military transport aircraft derivatives, including the Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT). MTAD has been working for several years on the development of air-to-air refuelling solutions to offer the wide body Airbus family (A310/A330) as a high quality, flexible, low risk and cost-effective product to meet short and mid term tanking requirements.

EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division (MTAD) covers the full range of skills required to design, develop, manufacture, test and certify state-of-the-art Tanker Kits to be installed in Airbus platforms matching customer requirements. MTAD launched in November 2001 a development programme for an Advanced Air Refuelling Boom System (ARBS) to support the firm decision of EADS to enter the air-to-air refuelling market covering the whole range of products (tanker capability based on wing pods, fuselage hose and drogue refuelling unit [FRU] and boom).

This entirely new boom has the advantage of offering the latest technology available and the most modern solutions. Besides an advanced boom main structure, it has full fly-by-wire controls, including an Automatic Load Alleviation System. The almost 18 meter length Boom has a larger refuelling envelope than the KC-135 boom and has improved controllability with its Roll & Pitch joint. The maximum fuel flow is around 1200 US gal/min. The design includes a release and retraction system with redundant hoist and lock, and independent disconnection capability. A boom operator, sat at a Fuel Operator Station located close to the cockpit, controls an artificial 3D-vision & surveillance system during the entire air-to-air refuelling process. Night vision compatibility is also offered.

EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division (MTAD) has been involved in two different programmes based on military derivatives of the Airbus A310:

One, acting as the main contractor, was the acquisition of 2 Airbus A310-300s that have been transformed into VIP versions for the Spanish Air Force and have already been delivered.

The other, is participating in the conversion into tankers of 4 Airbus A310 MRTs for the German Air Force. Canada also added to this production line 2 similar A310s, totaling 6 aircraft for the two countries. EADS CASA has been responsible, within this programme, for the Tanker Kit design and production.

EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division (MTAD) is also responsible for providing the A330-200 MRTT 'fit for purpose' tanker to the AirTanker Consortium that has been selected as preferred bidder by the British authorities for the U.K. Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) Programme.

EADS and several leading aerospace and defence companies joined forces to form AirTanker to bid for the UK Ministry of Defence's £13 billion FSTA programme. The FSTA programme is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) to replace the RAF's ageing VC10 and TriStar tankers with a complete air-to-air refuelling and air transport service provided by industry.

AirTanker's winning proposal is based on the latest generation of Airbus wide-bodied A330 aircraft. The proposed solution is equipped with hose and drogue pods under the wings, an FRU in the lower centre fuselage position, a fuel operator station, a video monitoring system, air-to-air rendezvous and operational lighting system with IR capability, military avionics and a full range of defensive aids suite (DAS) options.

EADS, through its Military Transport Aircraft Division, has signed in December 2004 a contract to provide the Royal Australian Air Force with a fleet of 5 Multi Role Tanker Transport aircraft that will replace the obsolete Boeing 707.

These A330 MRTTs will include the state of the art Air Refuelling Boom System (ARBS) developed by EADS.

The A330 MRTT will enter service in 2009 following operational test and evaluation by the RAAF.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2004, EADS generated revenues of € 31.8 billion and employed a workforce of about 110,000. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the world's largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and the joint venture MBDA, the leading international missile producer in the global market. EADS is the major partner in the Eurofighter consortium, is the prime contractor for the Ariane launcher, develops the A400M military transport aircraft and is the largest industrial partner for the European satellite navigation system Galileo.
