Lockheed Martin Awards Personnel Recovery Vehicle Facility Study Contract to L. Robert Kimball & Associates
OWEGO, NY, June 3rd, 2005 -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has awarded the Ebensburg, PA-based architecture firm of L. Robert Kimball & Associates a contract to study candidate locations and preliminary design configurations for a possible Personnel Recovery Vehicle (PRV) integration facility at Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego. The value of the study is approximately $200,000.
“We’re pleased to have Kimball & Associates performing this study, and to have them providing a preliminary design of the PRV facility,” said Stephen D. Ramsey, executive vice president for Helicopter Systems at Lockheed Martin Systems Integration – Owego. “Their involvement in the project will assist us in creating a state-of-the-art complex for the PRV.”
PRV is a U.S. Air Force initiative to procure a more capable aircraft to recover isolated personnel from hostile territory. A team led by Lockheed Martin intends to offer the three-engine US101 during the upcoming PRV competition. As the helicopter with the largest cabin in its class and proven performance in the combat search and rescue mission, the American-built US101 will enable the Air Force to transport vehicles as large as a sport utility vehicle, or configure the space to accommodate 16 litters or more than 30 troops, along with weapons for 360-degree coverage of the aircraft. A contract award is expected in February 2006.
Under the terms of this contract, Kimball & Associates will analyze several potential locations for the PRV integration facility on the Lockheed Martin campus in Owego. Kimball & Associates will also provide preliminary design layouts of the PRV facility, which will house the program’s administrative offices, systems integration laboratories, and an aircraft integration hangar. Final site selection and construction of the approximately 160,000 square-foot facility would begin following a possible PRV contract award to Lockheed Martin. Kimball & Associates is currently under contract with Lockheed Martin to design the new Presidential Helicopter integration facility in Owego.
L. Robert Kimball & Associates is a full-service architectural and engineering firm with nearly 500 employees located in 16 regional offices. The company’s primary service areas include architecture, civil and environmental engineering, transportation design and planning, telecommunications and technology consulting, and mapping sciences.
The US101 aircraft is an American variant of AgustaWestland’s successful EH101 multimission helicopter. The US101 team collectively brings unmatched rotorcraft expertise and experience to this program: Lockheed Martin (prime contractor and systems integration), AgustaWestland (aircraft design) and Bell Helicopter (aircraft production), while General Electric will supply each helicopter with three, CT7-8 series engines.
