ARMY UPDATES DETAINEE OPERATIONS INFORMATION

ARMY UPDATES DETAINEE
OPERATIONS INFORMATION

The Army continued its effort to keep the public informed concerning detainee operations by releasing documents today pursuant to a Freedom of Information (FOIA) litigation with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Numerous inquiries examining all aspects of detention operations have been completed and additional reviews are underway. The major inquiries are based on more than 1700 interviews. Additionally, more than 350 criminal investigations have viewed allegations of detainee mistreatment. Thus far, allegations against 140 military members have been addressed in courts-martial, non-judicial punishment, and other adverse administrative action.

The Army remains committed to addressing identified problems in detainee operations and to communicating the progress to the public.
