Two Task Force Liberty Soldiers killed in Diyala

TIKRIT, Iraq – Two Task Force Liberty Soldiers were killed, along with one Iraqi civilian and one detainee, who was being transported by the combat patrol at the time of the engagement, near Buhritz in Diyala Province about 11:30 p.m., June 17.

A joint Task Force Liberty and Iraqi police patrol engaged terrorists after a report of armed anti-Iraqi forces in the area.

Five Iraqi police and one Task Force Liberty Soldier were also wounded in the fight. The wounded Iraqis were evacuated to Baqubah Hospital , while the injured Task Force Liberty Soldier was evacuated to a Coalition forces medical treatment facility.

Following a joint Task Force Liberty and Iraqi Army search, two suspects were detained by Iraqi Army soldiers.

Names of the deceased Soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
