Nepal govt frees over 50 political detainees

The Royal Government of Nepal freed over 50 political detainees on Friday, including Nepali Congress spokesman Arjun Narsingh and two former ministers, as a result of continuous international pressures.
Narsingh and two former ministers, Bimalendra Nidhi and Dip Kumar Upadhyay - both leaders of Nepali Congress (Democratic), were released by the government, a senior police officer told Press Trust of India.
The government also released 50 other political activists, who were detained after the February 1st royal takeover, added the unnamed officer.
However, over 100 people including Nepali Congress popular leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ramchandra Poudyal and NC Central Committee member Narahari Acharya are yet to be released.
