Task Force Liberty Soldiers repel attack on Coalition Forces base in Samarra
TIKRIT, Iraq – Task Force Liberty Soldiers repelled an attack by terrorists at a Coalition Forces base in Samarra at about 7:00 a.m. May 23. Two car bombs were detonated at the perimeter of the base.
One of the cars pulled up to a concrete section of the base's wall before detonating.
As Soldiers of Task Force Liberty's 1st Brigade Combat Team responded to the car bomb, a terrorist wearing an explosive vest approached the scene. Soldiers shot the attacker who then detonated his explosive vest.
Four Task Force Liberty Soldiers received non-life threatening injuries and are expected to return to duty today.
