From Chief of Naval Personnel Public Affairs

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Inspector General of the Bureau of Naval Personnel has opened an investigation into the unauthorized release of the senior chief petty officer board results.

The official results of the board are being withheld until completion of the investigation.

“My biggest concern is to ensure the integrity of the Navy’s selection board and promotion process,” said Vice Adm. Gerry Hoewing, Chief of Naval Personnel. “This is a serious offense, and compromises the trust and confidence we place in the system.”

It is unclear how the information was emailed out prior to the selection board making its final recommendations or how many people received the unauthorized list.

Once the investigation is complete and the report is available for review, Hoewing will confer with Navy leadership to determine the way ahead.
