NAVAL STATION NORFOLK (NNS) -- Naval Coastal Warfare (NCW) Squadron 25 returned to Yorktown, Va., May 4 after completing an eight-month deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility.

While deployed, the squadron was responsible for overseeing force protection and harbor security to facilitate the safe passage from the Sea Port of Ash Shuaibah.

“The deployment was really great, but it did get a little long towards the end.” said Lt. j.g. Paul Roshau, as he was greeted by his wife and year-and-a-half-old son Jacob, who wore a special desert hat his dad sent him for his first birthday. “[My son] was just beginning to crawl when I left; now he is so big,” Roshau added.

Roshaus added that once they arrived on station in Kuwait and saw the amount of traffic through the facility, the importance of their job was obvious.

Several hundred family members and friends, from as far away as Montana and Louisiana, turned out at Naval Station Norfolk's air terminal for the homecoming of their loved ones.

“The deployment was fraught with challenges, but we are glad he could serve his country," said Kathy McKenna, wife of Executive Officer Cmdr. Robert McKenna. The support on the home front was great.”

“It went very well; I am proud to serve with all the members,” said McKenna.

NCW Squadron 25 is homeport at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Virginia.
