May 4, 2005 Release Number: 05-05-03C FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE REMAINS OF SECOND PILOT FOUND FROM APPARENT F/A-18 CRASH BAGHDAD, Iraq – Search teams located the body of the second pilot from one of two missing U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18 aircraft from the U.S.S. Carl Vinson May 4. The aircraft had been flying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom when contact was lost at approximately 10:10 p.m., May 2. There was no initial indication of hostile fire in the area at the time contact was lost. The incident is under investigation. The name of the pilot is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. -30- |
