Iraqi, U.S. Soldiers on the offense against terrorists
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Task Force Baghdad Soldiers continued offensive operations today against terrorists in four brigade-sized operations centered in the general Baghdad vicinity.
The multiple brigade sweeps throughout Multi-National Division-Baghdad’s area have killed several and captured at least 41 terrorists while seizing weapons caches and other munitions used by anti-Iraqi forces. This number includes the 10 terrorists suspected to have possible links to the shooting down of a civilian MI-8 helicopter April 22.
Task Force Baghdad Soldiers were attacked by three improvised explosive devices during the course of operations April 25.
A Soldier died at 2:55 p.m. when his patrol in an area northwest of Baghdad struck one of the IEDs.
“Although there has been an increase in contact with terrorists over the past 48 hours, the number remains below the monthly average,” said Lt. Col. Clifford Kent, Task Force Baghdad spokesperson. “In the past 24 hours, Task Force Baghdad has encountered seven IEDs, four of which were discovered and disarmed without incident or injury.”
The name of the Soldier killed in the IED attack is being held pending notification of next of kin. The incident is under investigation.
