Lockheed Martin Breaks Ground on New Omaha-Area Laboratory and Office Facility
BELLEVUE, NEB., April 25th, 2005 -- Lockheed Martin held a groundbreaking ceremony today to mark the future site of its new Omaha-area laboratory and office facility. The site will house a 85,600 square foot two-story building that consolidates several existing facilities into one site and expands the corporation’s laboratory space in the area. The new building is expected to open in January 2006.
“We are extremely pleased to continue to grow our presence and service to our US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) customer and the Greater Omaha community,” said John Mengucci, Vice President and General Manager of DoD Systems for the Lockheed Martin IS&S business area. “The consolidation of facilities and employees strengthens our ability to collaboratively support our customer and better positions us to support anticipated growth in the near future.”
The new laboratory will become a new node in the corporation’s Global Vision Network – a capability that currently links 27 Lockheed Martin laboratories and facilities across the country. The node enables engineers, scientists and researchers in the corporation to work together to help solve customer challenges and develop new business technologies and solutions.
Approximately 240 people will work at the facility initially, with the potential to grow to 340 as future business requirements develop. The site is located in the Lakewood Villages at the intersection of 45th Street and Maas Road.
