A MILITANT FROM BASAYEV'S GANG ARRESTED IN CHECHNYAS
GROZNY, April 18 (RIA Novosti) - A militant from the Shamil Basayev-led group who shot a man from Achkhoi Martan to intimidate the local population was arrested, reports the press center of the regional headquarters for the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus.
"Yesterday, while investigating into a criminal case that was opened after Mairbek Bibulatov, 24, a resident of the Achkhoi-Martan village, was killed by militants in November 2003, law enforcers detained one of the militants involved in the killing in the village of Avtury, of Chechnya's Shali district," said the press center.
Law enforcers said he was a member of Magomed Baisultanov's group that was led by Shamil Basayev.
"The arrested bandit said the order to kill had been given personally by ringleader Baisultanov. The killing was meant to intimidate the locals who had denied support for the militants," said the center.
Law enforcers are checking out into the arrestee's links to other crimes committed by his gang.
