Ten escaped detainees recaptured
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Eleven detainees escaped from the Camp Bucca
theater internment facility during the early morning hours of April
16. At approximately 1:30 a.m., US Forces found indications of an
escape. The quick reaction force and all available guards responded
and conducted a comprehensive search of the interior and exterior
perimeter of Camp Bucca and alerted Iraqi Security Forces and other
Coalition service members.
During the search, a head count was conducted in the compound and 11
detainees were unaccounted for. The Iraqi security personnel were able
to quickly recapture 10 of the escapees at approximately 7:00 a.m.
today.
The 10 escapees are being held in Al Jameat until they can be returned
to Camp Bucca. A search continues for the remaining missing detainee.
An investigation is underway to determine how the detainees managed to
escape. All other detainees at Camp Bucca have been accounted for.
Camp Bucca is located in the south-eastern region of Iraq and holds
more than 6,000 detainees.
