KYRGYZ PREMIER DOUBTS NECESSITY TO INVOLVE EXTRA FOREIGN FORCES

RIA Novosti

BISHKEK, April 14 (RIA Novosti) - Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Prime Minister and Acting President of Kyrgyzstan, does not think it is necessary to deploy extra foreign forces in the country.

"The situation is under the Kyrgyz government's absolute control," Bakiyev said after meeting with the Pentagon's head Donald Rumsfeld, when asked whether they raised the issue of arranging an American military base in the country on a permanent basis.

The official also noted that the question of transferring US aircraft equipped with the AWACS system to the Manas airbase was not discussed during the meeting.

The premier confirmed that Kyrgyzstan would follow all the agreements in the military sector reached with the US earlier.

Bakiyev pledged to make every effort so that the presidential election, scheduled for July 10, will comply with international standards.
