CHECHNYA: REHABILITATION PROJECTS TO REPLACE HUMANITARIAN AID
GROZNY, April 13 (RIA Novosti) - Chechen President Alu Alkhanov welcomes the initiative of the European Union to pass from humanitarian aid to specific economic projects targeting the rehabilitation of Chechnya.
He said so at the talks with a delegation of the European Commission arriving to Chechnya to study the social and economic situation.
The Chechen leadership is going to discuss a range of commercial projects with the EC delegation, Alkhanov said.
He told members of the delegation that Chechnya has to build, above all, new health, education and sports facilities. "The acute problem of Chechnya is tuberculosis, hepatitis and cancer", Alkhanov said.
As many as 2,600 disabled persons are registered in Chechnya, he said. A mother and child health center has to be built. The supply of medicines especially to district hospitals is a case apart, he added.
In the opinion of the Chechen president, a complicated environmental situation has taken place in Grozny.
"In order to improve it, Chechnya needs equipment for processing ferroconcrete structures, a yard for waste processing", Alkhanov said.
The Chechen leadership is also faced with rehabilitation of the farming sector, building of boarding houses for orphans and a complex for processing agricultural raw products, he said.
