Admiral William J. Fallon, commander of the US Pacific Command, held talks with several Indian service chiefs to chalk out joint exercises between the armed forces of the two countries and other issues.
On a four-day visit here, Fallon was briefed in South Block about India's security perspectives and tsunami relief operations in which Indian Navy and US Pacific Command warships cooperated in carrying out relief operations in Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
Fallon, on his maiden visit to India after taking over the key US Pacific Command, also called on Defense Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
He will also meet Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran and National Security Advisor M K Narayanan tomorrow.
The senior US defense official's visit assumes significance in the wake of US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice's recent announcement of developing a strategic partnership with India on a global level and easing transfer of high technology weapon systems to India.
Fallon will also visit Agra and Jodhpur to see Indian armored forces in action in the Thar desert. He will also tour Western Naval Command warships off Mumbai.
