Task Force Baghdad Soldiers react to
IEDs, shootings
BAGHDAD, Iraq --Task Force Baghdad Soldiers patrolling
neighborhoods here responded to numerous reports of small-arms fire
and improvised explosive devices April 11 as they continue security
operations with the Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police.
Late in the evening of April 10, a Task Force Baghdad unit spotted a
suspicious vehicle abandoned along the side of the road and cordoned
off the surrounding area. Local Iraqis told the U.S. Soldiers that two
suspicious individuals had dropped off the car earlier in the day,
then fled the scene.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived at the site and, after
first examining the car, dropped thermite charges through a broken
window. The car burst into flames and, moments later, a loud explosion
blew the car into the air and flipped it upside down. Once the fire
died down, the EOD team confirmed that it was a vehicle-carried IED.
The incident is currently under investigation.
"The Iraqi citizens at the site provided us with valuable, potentially
life-saving information about the circumstances surrounding this
suspicious vehicle," said Lt. Col. Clifford Kent, Task Force Baghdad
spokesperson. "By continuing to work closely with Iraqi Security
Forces and Task Force Baghdad forces, local Iraqis-the people who know
their neighborhoods the best-are playing a valuable, essential part in
the war on terrorism," Kent said.
Iraqi Security Forces and Task Force Baghdad officials strongly
encourage local citizens to report suspicious behavior by e-mailing
baghdadtipshotline@yahoo.com or calling one of the TIPS hotlines at
07901737723 or 07901737727.
