RUSSIA INTERESTED IN SOONEST SETTLEMENT OF TRANSDNIESTRIAN CONFLICT
ST. PETERSBURG, April 6 (RIA Novosti - North-west, Anna Novak) - Russia is interested in the soonest settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict as an intermediary in this process alongside with Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday.
Lavrov attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition entitled "Russia - Norway. Through Centuries and Borders" in St. Petersburg.
"We proceed from the all sides' striving for the solution of this problem based on federal, demilitarized and neutral Moldova," Lavrov stressed.
According to him, certain progress has been already achieved. "There is the Kozak memorandum, which provisions are acknowledged by all sides, including the OSCE, the European Union and the United States. Moreover, there are Russian-Ukrainian-OSCE projects," the minister noted.
Sergei Lavrov expressed hope that after the elections in Moldova, the Transdniestrian and Moldovan leaders would start negotiations.
"The sides should display political will and we, as intermediaries, will help them," he said.
