KYRGYZ PARLIAMENTARIANS SUGGEST IMPEACHMENT
BISHKEK, April 5 (RIA Novosti's Yulia Orlova) - Some Kyrgyz parliamentarians have suggested that Askar Akayev's resignation not be accepted and impeachment be announced.
Azimbek Beknazarov, a local lawmaker, said this on Tuesday at a parliamentary session. According to him, "declaring impeachment and accepting a voluntary resignation are two different things." He believes that Akayev's resignation is out of the question after his escape from the country.
Other parliamentarians who belonged to "irreconcilable opposition" under Akayev concur.
Beknazarov headed the staff of people's unity set up by the anti-Akayev opposition shortly before the March 24 events. It was People's Unity that organized the storm of the Kyrgyz government building. Apart from being a lawmaker, Beknazarov is also acting prosecutor general of the republic.
