RUSSIA DID NOT PLAN TO INTERFERE IN KYRGYZ AFFAIRS

RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, April 4 (RIA Novosti) - "We did not examine any theoretical plans for interfering in Kyrgyz affairs," Nikolai Bordyuzha, Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, told Rossia TV channel April 3.

When asked whether Russia's military presence in Kyrgyzstan was enough to guard the Kant air base, Bordyuzha noted that "any unit-and-base tables of organization stipulate guard-duty objectives."

"I think that we have enough personnel for guarding that base in peace-time," Bordyuzha said.

The Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization did not confirm some mass-media reports to the effect that several Ilyushin Il-76 cargo jets still remained at the Kant base, and that they were called on to evacuate Russian citizens from Kyrgyzstan (in case of emergency).

"My conversations with Russia's Defense Minister and other Defense Ministry officials have convinced me that no planes had been redirected to Kyrgyzstan for evacuation and personnel-transfer purposes," Bordyuzha noted.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Armenia.
