RIA Novosti
MOSCOW, April 4 (RIA Novosti) - The Kyrgyz parliament is to consider guarantees of Askar Akayev's security on Tuesday, Tashkul Kereksizov, a representative of the Kyrgyz opposition, told RIA Novosti.
"In compliance with yesterday's protocol, guarantees and Akayev's resignation will be discussed simultaneously," he said.
According to him, the issue of Akayev's security will be settled on the basis of the existing Kyrgyz law on the first president.
The opposition cannot prohibit Akayev from returning to Kyrgyzstan if he wants to do it, Kereksizov stressed.
"However, little time has passed since the March 24 events, therefore, Akayev's return is not recommended for security reasons," he added.
In his words, Akayev intended to return to scientific activities, most likely in Russia.
Askar Akayev explained his resignation by the necessity to preserve Kyrgyzstan's integrity, peace and stability, Kereksizov noted. "This was a sad decision for Akayev and his supporters," he said.
Deputy Kvanchbek Dzhumanaliyev, former transport minister and vice premier, is authorized to read Akayev's resignation statement, Kereksizov reported. According to him, the video record of Akayev's resignation will be shown at the Kyrgyz parliament on Tuesday.
Akayev did not make any financial and material conditions to the new authorities, Tashkul Kereksizov said.
"He looked courageous during his resignation, as a real Kyrgyz should," he emphasized.
