KYRGYZ PARLIAMENT APPOINTS BAKIYEV ACTING PRESIDENT
BISHKEK, March 25 (RIA Novosti) - Both chambers of the Kyrgyz parliament have approved Kurmanbek Bakiyev's appointment as Kyrgyzstan's acting president and prime minister, MP Dooronbek Sadyrbayev said at a rally.
This piece of news aroused applause at the rally.
Meanwhile, leader of the Ar Namys party Felix Kulov has called for assisting power structures to restore order in Kyrgyzstan.
Released from custody on Thursday, Kulov is currently in charge of coordinating power structures.
He reported that he held a consultation with heads of power agencies last night to learn that 90% of their staff are demoralized.
In this connection Kulov urged the country's citizens to help the law enforcement authorities, saying that nobody else could provide public security, the Kyrgyz Kabar agency was quoted as saying.
"God forbid that anyone would have to go through such revolution," Kulov remarked. According to him, what was going on last night was beyond imagination. "President Akayev is to blame for that. He clung to power until the last minute, then deserted his country and his people and fled," the official said.
On Thursday he claimed that after restoring law and order he would return to jail. "I was sentenced to imprisonment and must serve my time," Kulov said on the air.
"I am not interested in posts or positions. I was just asked to help protect people and their property," Kulov, who was Vice President before imprisonment, was quoted as saying.
