KYRGYZ STAGE OF CSTO EXERCISE TO BE HELD IN TAJIKISTAN
MOSCOW, March 25 (RIA Novosti) - The first stage of a joint command and post exercise (CPX) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) entitled Rubezh 2005 will be held in Dushanbe instead of Bishkek within the same period - April 1-3, RIA Novosti was told in the CSTO Secretariat's press service.
"The earlier planned first stage of the exercise - the so-called 'map game' with participation of the representatives of the general staffs of Armed Forces will be held in Dushanbe within the same period April 1-3," said the CSTO.
The source said that the decision was made with account for the unstable situation in the Kyrgyz capital. The city of Dushanbe was chosen because the second stage of the exercise was to take place on Tajik territory.
The CSTO, when making such a decision to postpone the exercise stage, proceeded from the fact that even the CSTO exercise planned beforehand might be perceived in Bishkek's nervous atmosphere as an attempt to interfere or bring pressure to bear, said the CSTO.
In line with the decision of the CSTO Defense Ministers' Council, the second stage of the exercise will be held in the form of joint exercises with live firing led by the Tajik Defense Minister.
During the exercise, issues of preparation and implementation of joint decisions to use and manage the forces and means of the collective security system during the joint operation to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Central Asian states will be perfected.
Joint actions with border troops, law enforcement bodies and special services of Tajikistan in interaction with antiterrorist structures of the CIS and SCO on counteraction to threats and challenges to the national, regional and international security will be coordinated.
