KYRGYZSTAN SETS UP SELF-DEFENSE SQUADS
BISHKEK, March 25 (RIA Novosti) - The Kyrgyz coalition For Democracy and Civil Society together with the OSCE center in Bishkek has published telephone hot line numbers for citizens to report facts of robbery and looting.
The coalition has appealed to residents of Bishkek "by a combined effort to prevent looting and maintain order". It has also called on those willing to joint self-defense squads and gather today on the city's central square.
Getting a telephone signal, law and order maintenance squads are expected promptly to arrive to the sites where looters are operating. According to the RIA Novosti correspondent, residents of apartment houses in Bishkek are themselves setting up "self-defense house squads" to protect their homes by a joint effort.
Addressing the people today, coordinator of Kyrgyzstan's law-enforcement agencies Felix Kulov appealed against walking out in the streets at night time, letting children out and for setting up people's teams to protect their homes.
