KYRGYZSTAN: BISHKEK TOWN HALL CALLS ON ACTING PRESIDENT FOR STATE OF EMERGENCY
BISHKEK, March 25 (RIA Novosti) - Parliament approved today Kurmanbek Bakiev's appointment acting President of Kyrgyzstan. The Town Hall of Bishkek, Kyrgyz capital, immediately appealed to him to introduce a state of emergency in the country. It has already introduced a curfew in the city with a decree broadcast on the national television.
The decree will not become valid unless the whole country comes under a state of emergency, acknowledges the Town Hall-hence its appeal to Mr. Bakiev.
Meanwhile, Clause 15 of the State of Emergency Law has entered into force to authorize police shooting to kill, when necessary. The Bishkek police received a respective order, an officer said to Novosti.
Police and voluntary public helpers have for now ousted a marauding mob off the city heart, say eyewitnesses.
Close on 360 have been injured since opposition activists started storming the Government House, about noon yesterday, the national television reported with reference to the Health Ministry.
