MI-8 CRASH IN CHECHNYA CAUSED BY HUMAN ERROR

RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, March 24 (RIA Novosti) - The crash of the Mi-8 helicopter on Tuesday was not caused by external factors, Gen. Nikolai Rogozhkin, the commander in chief of the internal forces of the Russian Interior Ministry, said Thursday.

According to him, the crash was either caused by technical malfunction or by the human factor.

At the same time, he said, all the helicopters flown in Chechnya are maintained in a sound technical condition.

"Possibly, the crash was caused by the pilots' error. They have been flying in Chechnya and became aces, so they just lost the sense of self-preservation," suggested Rogozhkin.

The helicopter crashed on Tuesday, March 22, at 2.40 pm Moscow time, two kilometers west off Oktyabrskoye village, Groznensky district.

No victims have been reported. Six people - three crewmen, two Interior Ministry officials and an interior troops serviceman - received injuries of various degrees. They are all in hospital in Khankala.
