RUSSIAN EXPERTS ON DEVELOPMENTS IN KYRGYZSTAN

RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, March 24 (RIA Novosti) - Director of the Institute of CIS Countries, State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin believes that neither Russia, nor the United States are behind the developments in Kyrgyzstan.

"Both Russia and the U.S. are interested in Kyrgyzstan's stability because their military bases are deployed in the country," Zatulin told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

In his opinion, the revolutions in Georgia and Ukraine have nothing to do with the events in Kyrgyzstan. "The causes of the conflict should be searched for inside the country," the MP noted.

He doubts that Russia will 'save' President Askar Akayev because its interference in the developments on the post-Soviet space is usually regarded negatively.

According to Konstantin Zatulin, the actions of the Kyrgyz opposition are nothing but a "senseless" revolt.

Head of the Rodina faction in the State Duma Dmitry Rogozin stressed, in turn, that Kyrgyzstan's authorities did not pay due attention to the interests of the opposition.

"It is necessary to take into account the interests of both the elite and people," he said.

"The spontaneous shift of political elite is seen in almost all the former Soviet republics, except Azerbaijan, which preserved the succession of the political course," Rogozin noted.
