KYRGYZSTAN: SUPREME COURT INVALIDATES PARLIAMENT REGISTRATION
RIA Novosti
BISHKEK, March 24 (RIA Novosti) - Kyrgyzstan's Supreme Court has unanimously invalidated the registration of a newly elected parliament, announced Kurmanbek Osmonov, court president.
"The mandate has thus been restored of the bicameral parliament, whose competences constitutionally expire, April 14," he said to the previous-convocation parliament as it gathered for an extraordinary session.
The court did not regard the possibility to invalidate constituency elections. "That was a legal and a political decision alike. I admit that in all honesty," added Mr. Osmonov.
Attending today's court session were 33 members out of a total 35.
