UZBEK FOREIGN MINISTRY CONCERNED ABOUT KYRGYZ DEVELOPMENTS
BISHKEK, March 23 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Orlova) - Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry has voiced its concern about the developments in the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan.
"Uzbekistan, a close neighbor of Kyrgyzstan, cannot but be concerned about the developments taking place in the southern regions of the country," reads the Uzbek Foreign Ministry's statement published in Bishkek on Wednesday.
Tashkent believes disputes and disagreements "must be resolved within the framework of a constructive dialogue and the law by means of the procedures set by the legislation of Kyrgyzstan in compliance with the current constitution".
The Uzbek Foreign Ministry stressed that "any election at any level is a domestic affair of every country." The Uzbek government is certain that the current problems should be resolved peacefully and without any interference from abroad.
Uzbekistan expressed its hope for Kyrgyzstan to "preserve its social and political stability and stand up to inflammatory calls and possible actions of destructive forces."
As was reported earlier, Uzbekistan beefed up the forces guarding the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border due to the large-scale opposition protests in the Osh and Jalal-Abad regions of Kyrgyzstan.
