GROZNY, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - Federal forces in Chechnya killed Rizvan Chitigov, a ringleader close to Chechen separatist Shamil Basayev, a spokesman for the regional operational headquarters for controlling the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus reported.

Chitigov was killed in the Shali district of Chechnya.

According to the spokesman, Chitigov was Shamil Basayev's closest aide and was involved in many crimes in the republic, including kidnapping.

In the middle of February, Yunadi Turchayev, known as the Emir of Grozny, was killed. He carried out personal commissions of the militants' leaders, Shamil Basayev and Aslan Maskhadov. Turchayev was the commander of a group called the Islamic Regiment and coordinated the terrorist activity in Grozny and central Chechnya. Turchayev was involved in the organization of the attack on Grozny on August 19, 2004.

On February 16 of this year, Abu-Dzeit, a citizen of Saudi Arabia, who is held responsible as one of the main organizers of the Beslan terrorist act, and of the attack in Ingushetia, was killed in the village of Kantyshevo in the Nazran district of Ingushetia. Abu-Dzeit was also held responsible for involvement in the organization of the terrorist act in the military hospital in Mozdok in August of 2003. He trained and instructed the suicide bomber who blasted up the hospital.

When searching the bunker, in which Abu-Dzeit hid himself, the servicemen found a considerable number of homemade explosive devices and various components for them, audio and video materials and also religious literature.

On March 8, FSB special forces killed Aslan Maskhadov in the village of Tolstoy-Yurt in Chechnya's Grozny district. The Chechen separatist leader was hiding in a private house's underground bunker.
