March 23, 2005 Release Number: 05-03-27 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HIGH-LEVEL TALIBAN KILLED IN FIREFIGHT WITH AFGHAN AND COALITION FORCES BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - A man implicated in many of the attacks against Coalition forces in Paktika Province died in a firefight with Afghan and Coalition forces March 22. Coalition troops were fired on by Raz Mohammed and other Taliban forces when they attempted to capture Mohammed, who was wanted for questioning. Coalition forces came under intense enemy fire as they arrived in Mohammed's village, according to reports. During the ensuing firefight, Mohammed and two other enemy insurgents were killed. An Afghan woman and two children also died in the firefight. Another child was wounded; he was treated by Coalition medics and medically evacuated. That child is reported to be in stable condition. Also killed in the incident was an Afghan supporting the Coalition forces. Another Afghan working alongside Coalition forces was wounded. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. There were no Coalition casualties.
