RIA Novosti

BISHKEK, March 21 (RIA Novosti correspondent Yulia Orlova) - Opposition supporters are continuing protests in Kirgizia's Jalalabad region, while the republic's capital of Bishkek is celebrating Muslim New Year, Nooruza.

About a thousand of protesters spent a night on the square in front of the administration building, a source in Jalalabad told RIA Novosti on the phone. At the moment there are about 3,000 protesters on the square.

When the administrative building which protesters had occupied since March 4 was freed by OMON special police yesterday, the protesters seized a local police office, the airport, and the mayor's office.

The Kirgiz authorities have refuted rumors on casualties.

The situation in the capital remains quiet, the Kirgiz law enforcement bodies told RIA Novosti. New Year celebrations are taking place on Bishkek's central square.
