BISHKEK, March 21 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Orlova) - Actions provoked by the opposition in the south of Kyrgyzstan might become a perfect breeding ground for terrorist and extremist organizations, announced the Kyrgyz President's press secretary, Abdil Segizbayev on Monday.
According to the press secretary, administrative buildings in Jalal-Abad are on fire at present. "And the chaos is playing into terrorist hands because they are interested in destabilization of the country," he stated.
He said the opposition was driving people out of control by spreading rumors of alleged deaths. The majority of opposition members are located in Bishkek and Osh, Segizbayev reported.
The press secretary emphasized, "at this point, it is necessary to let people calm down and realize what has happened, and only after that start a dialogue." President Askar Akayev is aware of the situation in the south and he is ready to talk with people.
Segizbayev categorically denounced rumors that the Kyrgyz president had fled the country. "Askar Akayev is currently at his office. He is conducting a meeting with heads of the CEC and the Supreme Court," he said.
He also reiterated that there were no casualties either yesterday or today, neither in Osh or Jalal-Abad. The rumors about alleged deaths are completely ungrounded, he stressed.
Early Sunday, OMON soldiers stormed the buildings of regional administration in the Osh and Jalal-Abad regions, previously seized and occupied by supporters of candidates who had lost parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan. The protesters demanded the annulment of the elections and the change of power in the republic.
During the day, though, a throng of protesters, numbering about 10,000 people, stormed the building of the Jalal-Abad interior ministry department. The assailants threw "Molotov cocktails" at the building and set it on fire. The protesters also captured the building of regional administration, the mayors Office and the airport.
On Monday, a crowd of protesters occupied the buildings of administrative and law enforcement bodies in Osh. According to reports, the police did not interfere with their actions.
