Task Force Baghdad Soldiers detain two local nationals

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A Task Force Baghdad platoon detained two local nationals at 1 a.m. March 16 in east Baghdad.

The platoon was at a halt when it was approached by a vehicle carrying two civilians. The platoon stopped the vehicle and instructed the local nationals to get out; however, as the Task Force Baghdad Soldiers approached, the two individuals jumped back in the car and attempted to flee.

After the Soldiers fired a warning shot, the vehicle continued to move. At that point, the platoon perceived the vehicle as being hostile and fired into the cab of the vehicle, injuring one of the occupants.

The two civilians were taken to a nearby U.S. military facility.

The incident is under investigation.
