MASKHADOV'S BODY TAKEN TO KHANKALA
GROZNY, March 9, (RIA Novosti) - "The body of the Chechen militant leader, Aslan Maskhadov, who was liquidated on the day before, has been taken to Khankala for further operational-investigative actions," an informed source at the headquarters of the joint grouping of troops in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.
The agency's source said that a task group of operatives from the North Caucasian department of the Prosecutor-General's Office is arriving in Khankala on Wednesday. They will conduct the official identification of the killed terrorist, and also start questioning three detained militants from Maskhadov's closest entourage - Iliskhanov, Murdashev and his nephew Veskhan.
"The militants, who were detained on the day before, were hiding together with Maskhadov in a bunker under one of the houses in the village of Tolstoy-Yurt, Grozny district, and are now in the isolation cells, where investigators are working with them," the agency's source said.
