India strengthens border force to fight Nepal Maoists

New Delhi, Feb 28, IRNA -- In a bid to deal with the Maoist threat from Nepal effectively, the government of India has increased the budgetary provisions for border security force. The total budgetary provisions for the union home ministry saw an increase of 30 percent with the total funds proposed for the ministry this year being put at Rs946.39 crore against Rs731.51 crore in the last fiscal. In the budgetary provisions made for union home ministry this year, the non-plan funds for SSb, which is guarding the Indo-Nepal border has been increased from Rs360.24 crore to Rs532.77 crore. The provisions would help the SSB in setting up more checkposts along the border besides bringing in more modern equipment to check the infiltration of Maoist leaders. 2160/2323/1412
