World Class BAE SYSTEMS Siren: Protection Against Anti-Ship Missiles On Display At IDEX 2005
13 Feb 2005
BAE Systems Avionics Group will display a model of the SIREN anti-ship missile decoy system at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2005) in Abu Dhabi this week
The system which is already in service with the Royal Navy is one of only a few reliable decoy systems able to operate using RF technology to locate and counter incoming anti-ship missiles and was found, in trials, to be the most capable off-board jammer available.
Upon detecting a threat, the system launches a decoy from a 130mm launcher. Using a two-stage parachute system the decoy reaches the optimum point to engage the missile threat. Within a few seconds of launch, the electronic payload starts transmitting the powerful and highly directional jamming signal and descends to detect and counter the missile threat. Effectively, the SIREN technology seduces the incoming missile away from the ship.
The SIREN system has been proven to be reliable and effective in operational trials. It is also able to handle multiple threats simultaneously even in dense RF environments and can be deployed from standard 130mm diameter decoy launching systems.
James Simpson, Head of Naval Electronic Warfare Campaigns for BAE Systems Avionics said This state-of-the-art anti-missile system has already become a key part of the Royal Navys fleet protection arsenal and we are delighted to be able to demonstrate this proven system at IDEX 2005.
