repel attack by insurgents
CAMP RIPPER, Iraq - Elements of Regimental Combat Team 7, 1st
Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, and Iraqi Soldiers with
the 504th Iraqi National Guard Battalion repelled attacks by
insurgents this evening near the city of Husaybah.
Initiated with an improvised-explosive device, the units were attacked
near their posts with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire by
enemy forces operating from the rooftops of buildings.
The Marines and Iraqi Guardsmen returned fire, killing two insurgents.
An Iraqi ambulance immediately appeared and retrieved the individuals.
Moments later, coalition units received indirect fire. The Marines
counter-fired against the enemy's positions.
There were no U.S. or ING casualties reported.
