ALVARO GIL-ROBLES TO ATTEND SEMINAR ON HUMAN RIGHTS IN CHECHNYA

ST. PETERSBURG, February 10 (RIA Novosti's Anna Novak) - Mr. Alvaro Gil-Robles, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, will attend today an advanced seminar for the staff of the human rights commissioner in Chechnya, held at the training Center for the Leading Staff in Pushkin outside St. Petersburg.

"Mr. Gil-Robles will come to St. Petersburg for a few hours to deliver a report at the seminar," said Angelina Kuznetsova, the head of the press service of the Strategy Center.

The seminar is being held for the human rights commissioner in Chechnya appointed by presidential decree, his staff and representatives in the Chechen districts. Its agenda includes lectures, training sessions, and group lessons. The seminar, which began on February 7 and will end on February 14, was organized by the St. Petersburg humanitarian and politological center Strategy and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.

Ms. Kuznetsova said the Strategy Center held many such seminars for human rights commissioners in different parts of Russia, but it is the first seminar for the human rights commissioner in Chechnya
