MUSCAT, Oman (NNS) -- The guided-missile destroyer USS Milius (DDG 69) made a three-day port visit to Muscat, Oman, Feb. 5-7.
During their time in Muscat, crew members from the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer had the opportunity to visit the city's cultural sites, including ancient fortresses, street markets and mosques.
"I was very impressed with the hospitality of the Omani people," said Sonar Technician 1st Class Jacquelyn Canez of San Antonio. "The similarities between our cultures are very interesting."
While in port, the ship hosted a reception for ambassadors, dignitaries and military officials.
"The evening highlighted the strong ties with many of our allies in the region, and we look forward to continuing these relationships," said Milius Commanding Officer Cmdr. John Mitchell.
Milius is on a six-month deployment in support of the global war on terrorism as part of Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 5. The group is led by the amphibious ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). It also includes the amphibious ships USS Duluth (LPD 6) and USS Rushmore (LSD 47), the guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG 52), frigate USS Thach (FFG 43), and Coast Guard Cutter USCGC Munro (WHEC 724).
