NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT) is supporting the Marine Corps aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) and lending technical expertise from their Joint Expeditionary Tactical Trainer (JETT).

This technology will provide an expeditionary warfare perspective to the Joint and Combined Multi-Battle Group Inport Exercise (MBGIE) 05-1 being conducted in February. This is the first MBGIE to include EWTGLANT since it has become a network node on the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE).

"Now that we are connected to the primary network for simulation, we are becoming a significant asset in the world of Joint Marine and Navy training and operations," said Capt. Michael Moore, executive officer, EWTGLANT. "We are helping them train under realistic conditions without going into the field or out to sea."

The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) from Camp Lejeune, N.C., will provide a team of fire support personnel for expeditionary strike group (ESG) and MEU special operations missions in the Supporting Arms Coordination Center (SACC) aboard Kearsarge. Selected EWTGLANT personnel will augment 26th MEU to provide Marine Corps expeditionary expertise in support of the exercise.

"The technology is available to interact with not only the Navy but also our other sister services through Joint Forces Command's Joint Training and Experimentation Network (JTEN)," said Lt. Col. John Kelly, director of modeling and simulation, EWTGLANT. "This will further enable us to be truly joint, working with the Army and Air Force, as well."

EWTGLANT supports expeditionary and carrier strike group training with naval and joint simulation, C4I systems, and both Navy and Marine Corps subject matter expertise. The JETT has recently supported other major joint and coalition exercises, such as the Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet-sponsored events Joint Task Force Exercise 04-1 "Blinding Storm" in July 2004, and Maritime Command Limited Objective Experiment (MARCOLE) #1 held last month.

While operating out of the JETT, EWTGLANT personnel will execute operations via modeling and simulation that are planned by personnel aboard Kearsarge, just as if the ship was at sea.
